Two grant programs are giving small business owners in South Omaha the chance to apply for thousands of dollars to help their businesses. But deadlines are quickly approaching — here’s how to apply.

District 1 Small Business Support Grant — deadline Friday, March 31

Latino small business owners have until tomorrow, March 31, to apply for a $2,500 grant to help their business, according to the Nebraska Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, or NHCC.

Businesses must be located in Douglas County Commissioner Roger Garcia’s District 1, which includes much of South Omaha, and be full-time source of living for owners to qualify.

Find the application here. Applicants must include the following documents in PDF form:

  • Taxes 2020 or 2021
  • Entrepreneurship/business training classes certificate
  • Business registration confirmation with the State of Nebraska

The funds come from the American Rescue Plan Act, which is federal money intended to help businesses that have struggled due to the pandemic.

The NHCC has already distributed a number of District 1 grants to applicants with businesses in South Omaha, NHCC President Yesenia Peck told El Perico. All grant applications are reviewed by a volunteer group of community members, according to Peck.

2022 to 2023 South Omaha Turnback Tax Grant — deadline Thursday, April 6 3:00 PM.

Entrepreneurs in South Omaha still have a chance to apply for thousands of dollars to benefit their business goals.

About $36,000 is up for grabs and will be distributed to those who qualify. The South Omaha Turnback Tax Committee will review all applications and notify recipients in May.

The committee received funding from the state of Nebraska to support projects that will have a direct impact on the South Omaha community, according to the grant.

See the application for more information on how to apply.
