Young people in Omaha are invited to participate in a special training session with the Fire Department to find out if they can have a career there.
Many education experts consider that when a young person is studying, it’s hard to understand the importance of selecting a professional career. Many make a decision by considering elements that are important, such as prestige, money, trends, and other things that matter to them during their adolescence.
However, to pick a career, you must go deeper in order to understand who you are as a person, and what you’ll be able to tolerate or do.
Because of this, the Fire Department is inviting young people of all genres to explore the possibility of a professional career as firefighters.
“We’ll teach them the skills they need so that they can become professionals to fight fires. We’ll do this by teaching them in the classroom, as well as by putting things into practice…,” the organization stated on social media.
For many this is a once in a lifetime opportunity considering that the issue young people face when deciding what they will study is having to make an uninformed decision, which will have a negative impact on their college education, hence the high turnover of students in these programs, or them having low grades, to name a few examples, all because they picked the wrong career.
To make the right call, they need to know as much as possible about a potential career.
In the aforementioned course, students will get the opportunity to participate in practical activities as potential firefighters.
They will be trained on topics such as fire extinguishers, ropes and knots, hoses, search and rescue, ladders, dangerous materials, and ventilation.
It’s a ten-week program that will be taught on Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Initial meetings will take place at the Omaha Fire Department training center at 11616 Rainwood St. we must highlight that the location for each class will vary based on the week.
The organization states that those interested must be between 16 and 19 years of age. The cost to participate will be $40, and students will receive a certificate at the end of the course, one on CPR, and one for Stop the Bleed.
Enrollment for the fall 2019 program is currently open, and classes will start on September 7.
Deciding what you’ll be working on for the rest of your life is not an easy choice, which is why the Fire Department is working hard to make sure that the choice someone makes is the right one, in order to ensure a student’s success. This is why this training program exists, so that the organization can help to shape the future of those that participate in it.
