Registration hits record high in Nebraska

Voter registration across Nebraska has already exceeded 2016 figures, the
Nebraska Secretary of State’s office said Tuesday.
With two weeks to go before the 2018 midterm election, voter registration in
Nebraska stands at 1,218,874 people — well above the 1,211,101 figures
reported for the last presidential election.
Nebraska’s two largest counties are also reporting the largest-ever number of
registered voters.
On Tuesday, there were 191,863 registered voters in Lancaster County,
according to Election Commissioner Dave Shively.
While he wasn’t ready to make a specific turnout prediction, Shively said he
believes Lancaster County’s turnout will easily top the 47.7 percent turnout
reported in 2014 and the 40 percent in 2010.
“We may reach the record number of midterm election voters from 2006, when
we had 94,214, or 54.68 percent,” Shively said in an email.
By October 1, Douglas County Election Commissioner Brian Kruse reported
more than 353,000 voters registered for the general election; the first time
Nebraska’s most populous county has topped 350,000.
