Christine Neumann-Ortiz, executive director of Voces De La Frontera and a national voice for immigration
reform, will be a featured guest during Metropolitan Community College’s celebration of Hispanic Latino
Heritage Month. The event will be held Thursday, Oct. 11, at 12:30 p.m. at the MCC South Omaha
Campus, ITC Conference Center, room 120.

The purpose of the Hispanic Heritage Month State Commemoration is to officially recognize the
history and accomplishments of Latino Americans in Nebraska, and to provide an opportunity for
Nebraskans to learn and embrace the diversity of the culture and contributions of Latinos. The event
provides an opportunity for the State of Nebraska to publicly recognize organizations and individuals
from across the state who have impacted their communities and built bridges.

Families Belong Together Rally

After recent ICE raids in O’Neill and other places in Nebraska, and continued separations of families
at the border with nearly 12,000 kids locked up, show up in solidarity with immigrant families and to
show legislators we want justice. The purpose of our October 14th rally is to provide a platform for
members of our communities to share their experiences of how this unjust law has severely
damaged their family structures, both physically and emotionally.

Dia de los Muertos: Day of The Dead

Celebrate life! Day of the Dead is a time to celebrate the lives of your loved ones who have
passed–and sugar skull art is a way to commemorate their lives well-lived. Dedicate your skull to a
loved one and paint things that remind you of them, or simply decorate a skull to celebrate!This
event is for 18 years and older and pre registration is required. All supplies are provided, but we do
need to know how many skulls to have on-hand. You can register in person at the front desk of the
