M\u00e1s adelante, en un proceso electoral se postul\u00f3 para un puesto en el Consejo de Educaci\u00f3n del Estado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En los m\u00e1s de cuarenta a\u00f1os desde ese proceso electoral de prueba, Juarez nunca hab\u00eda<br>pensado en estar un puesto p\u00fablico. Todo eso cambi\u00f3 cuando sus vecinos le alentaron a presentar su solicitud para el Consejo de Educaci\u00f3n de Omaha Public School en noviembre de 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToda mi vida ha estado orientada a la comunidad\u201d dijo Juarez. \u201cAs\u00ed que, aunque nunca he<br>tenido un empleo de esta naturaleza, en donde he vivido siempre he estado junto a la<br>comunidad\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El Consejo de Educaci\u00f3n de Omaha Public Schools seleccion\u00f3 a Juarez para cubrir la vacante<br>del puesto en el subdistrito 8 durante su reuni\u00f3n del lunes 13 de diciembre. Juarez llega por fin a ese cargo, que ocupaba antes Kimara Snipes quien en noviembre anunci\u00f3 que ten\u00eda que mudarse del subdistrito 8 y ya no podr\u00eda seguir en el puesto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/el-perico.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/MargoJuarez1-1-2-888x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6593\" width=\"426\" height=\"491\"\/><figcaption>Margo Juarez. Foto por Bridget Fogarty.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Juarez es miembro fundador de la Buena Vista Neighborhood Association y cosecretaria de<br>SONA (South Omaha Neighborhood Alliance). Hab\u00eda trabajado por un tiempo con Snipes y aprendi\u00f3 mucho del trabajo con ella dentro y fuera del Consejo de Educaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSiento un gran respeto por ella\u201d, nos dijo. \u201cElla ha sido una gran mentora para m\u00ed\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ju\u00e1rez se jubil\u00f3 de una carrera de m\u00e1s de 30 a\u00f1os en el gobierno federal, en donde trabaj\u00f3 en<br>la Administraci\u00f3n del Seguro Social y en el Servicio de Impuestos Internos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe observado la imagen de la estudiante que tienen como graduada de OPS y quiero que me<br>vean desde esa perspectiva\u201d, coment\u00f3 a los miembros del Consejo durante su entrevista. \u201cTodas las cualidades que han mostrado en una graduada de OPS las pueden encontrar en mi\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despu\u00e9s de entrevistar a ambos candidatos \u2013 Juarez y Evan Schmeits \u2013 el Consejo procedi\u00f3 a<br>votar sobre qui\u00e9n deber\u00eda quedar en el puesto vacante. Despu\u00e9s de dos rondas de votaciones<br>divididas entre ambos candidatos, la tercera ronda determin\u00f3 una victoria para Juarez con un<br>voto de 7-1 a su favor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00abLa Srta. Juarez ha mostrado un gran compromiso con la comunidad a trav\u00e9s de su servicio en<br>muchos grupos, incluyendo como cofundadora de la Buena Vista Neighborhood Association<br>cerca de nuestra nueva Buena Vista High\u201d, comentaron la Dra. Shavonna Holman y Jane<br>Erdenberger como Oficiales del Consejo en una declaraci\u00f3n a El Perico. \u201cApreciamos el tiempo<br>y la energ\u00eda que la Srta. Juarez ya ha invertido en Omaha Public Schools durante un momento<br>tan importante y de tanto trabajo\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Estudiantes y personal de trabajo se reuni\u00f3 en la escuela en enero durante el aumento de<br>casos por Omicron en la comunidad de Omaha. Para el 14 de enero, 592 estudiantes y 152<br>miembros del equipo de trabajo reportaron dar positivo para COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El Distrito actualiza el informe sobre COVID-19 cada viernes en el sitio web de OPS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Juarez coment\u00f3 que una gran preocupaci\u00f3n suya es asegurar que los estudiantes y el personal<br>de trabajo se sientan seguros en el sal\u00f3n de clase durante estos momentos. Durante<br>la pandemia, la decisi\u00f3n del Distrito por regresar a las clases convencionales con el requisito sobre el uso de cubrebocas que los padres de los alumnos de OPS no han recibido del todo bien.<br>Juarez comenta que la obligatoriedad sobre el uso de cubrebocas en la Ciudad de Omaha, el cu\u00e1l entr\u00f3 nuevamente en vigencia el 12 de enero, es un reflejo del enfoque del Distrito.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEsto permite poner en perspectiva lo serio que es tener este virus que nos est\u00e1 afectando a<br>todos\u201d, nos dijo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Juarez espera que al ir bajando pandemia pueda reunirse con las familias, estudiantes y<br>educadores de su Subdistrito para aprender m\u00e1s sobre sus esperanzas y las necesidades del<br>Distrito.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMi meta es ir a cada una de las escuelas que est\u00e1n en mi distrito e ir y reunirme con las y los<br>directores y el personal de trabajo\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sirviendo a los vecindarios del Sur de Omaha, que est\u00e1n formados por fuertes poblaciones de<br>familias inmigrantes, ella quiere dejar en claro que, si bien no habla ning\u00fan otro idioma adem\u00e1s<br>del ingl\u00e9s, priorizar\u00e1 el conectar a las familias con recursos que permitan romper las barreras<br>del idioma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNo quiero que nadie en la comunidad se sienta aislado\u201d, nos dijo. \u201cEn OPS se hablan muchos<br>idiomas y quiero poder usar cualquier herramienta que necesitemos, para que siempre<br>podamos abordar sus inquietudes\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Este art\u00edculo se public\u00f3 originalmente en la edici\u00f3n de febrero.
