A bill proposed by Senator John Murante of Gretna would remove the counted number of non U.S. Citizens, based on the U.S. Census; this would include legal U.S. residents living in the state of Nebraska from being counted when legislative boundary lines are determined.
Past Nebraska constitutional law does call for the exclusion of non US Citizens regarding the drawing of legislative boundaries. However, it was forgotten and seems that it was not an issue until now.
Heartland Worker’s Center organizer Jonathan Renteria opposed the bill while it was in front of the Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee in February.
“What will perspective transplants and potential employers think of Nebraska? The state government wants us to pay taxes to live the good life, but many could be taxed,  and not represented.” said Jonathan Renteria.

The next step for the bill LB1115 is to go to the legislative floor.
