President Trump’s latest immigration order is prompting workshops in the Omaha metro to educate immigrants on constitutional rights and how their families may be affected.
Local non-profits have been getting so many questions that they’re now collaborating to hold workshops and pass out information to educate the public.
Thursday, those questions lead to about 100 people attending the “Know Your Rights” workshop at the Heartland Workers Center near 24th and N Streets.
The hour-and-a-half presentation had experts and volunteers armed with information about the law. While it’s unknown how these families will be affected, area non-profits say they’re seeing huge spikes in people wanting to become citizens.
Latino Center of the Midlands (LCM), also known as Chicano Awareness Center, will provide the next free informative Immigration Workshop on Wednesday, March 8, from 5p.m. to 7p.m. For more information call LCM at 402-733-2720.
